Funky Fridays is an initiative created by young people, for young people. In Stawell, a group of people aged 12-16 identified the need for a safe and fun place for youth to hang out, have fun and meet new friends.

These creative and innovative teenagers decided on the name of the project, the frequency of the events, and the types of events that are held.

Each fortnight at the Stawell Powerhouse, young people aged 12-18 are invited to chill out in a relaxed, safe, drug-, smoke- and alcohol-free and supervised environment.

Each event runs for about two hours, depending on the event, and can also involve cooking and sharing a meal with friends. Each event asks for a gold coin donation of which the proceeds and funded straight back into the project to buy food for the next event. The venue is subject to change depending on the type of event.

CGLLEN’s Youth Project Officer supports the initiative through the Engage! program.
