As a not-for-profit, Central Grampians LLEN always values the participation of local community members as volunteers and mentors across a variety of our programs. Some of the programs that are always on the look out for volunteers include the learner-driver-mentor program L2P, the On Ya Bike! Program, Funky Fridays and more.
Volunteering is CGLLEN is a great way to bulk up your resume, give back to the community, and acquire professional references. CGLLEN covers a wide area across the Grampians, including Ararat Rural City Council, Pyrenees Shire, and Northern Grampians Shire. You can get involved locally, today!
The free L2P program helps give young learner drivers access to a car and supervising drivers as a means to log the 120 hours necessary for their probationary license. This rewarding program is heavily dependent on volunteer mentors to help young people gain independence through driving.
Some of the benefits of working as a mentor for L2P:
- L2P mentors are fully trained for free,
- You help bridge the gap between two demographics in the community
- You are part of a rewarding program
- You are covered by insurance
- You are provided with ongoing support by Central Grampians LLEN
The On Ya Bike! program helps primary school students refurbish old and worn down bicycles into brand new bicycles they can take home. The children involved in this program are at risk of becoming disengaged with school, and this program helps them meet goals and create a tangible project outcome at school.
Volunteers interested in giving back to their community through this program do not have to be a mechanic or be qualified in refurbishing bicycles. Volunteers are coached by CGLLEN’s Youth Project Officer and can either help refurbish the bicycles, mentor the children, or simply help supervise.
Funky Fridays is a fortnightly youth get-together at the Powerhouse in Stawell. Funky Fridays can range from discos, to cooking classes, to hangouts, and more. This program was created by young people, for young people, and is supported by Central Grampians LLEN.
Funky Fridays appreciates the support of any volunteers who are interested in supervising or facilitating some of the events.
School Holiday Volunteers
Central Grampians LLEN runs several school holiday programs that can change from term to term. CGLLEN loves seeing volunteers connect with young people in the communities in this way. Volunteers are asked to help facilitate programs and supervise young people.
If you have any special skills you would like to share with the Grampians community, perhaps you’re a qualified first aider, a photographer, a guest speaker with an inspirational story, a painter, chef or anything else, we’d love to hear from you!
