SWL Turns One

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) had its first birthday in May.

Central Grampians LLEN would like to thank all participating businesses in the Grampians region for guiding and teaching students in their chosen field of study.

We would also like to highlight A.F. Gason Pty Ltd, one of the area’s biggest employers, for hosting two students through the SWL program and subsequently employing both of these students: one through an apprenticeship and the other one a full time casual basis. SWL Manager Melissa presented Gason with a thank you certificate for their dedication to young people in the region.

Structured Workplace Learning is a program for VET and VCAL students who are looking for relevant,  hands-on work experience in their local industry. Students are also able to make important connections with employers, establishing networks for their future career paths.

Work placements are incredibly valuable when it comes to seeking future employment. Students who undertake an SWL placement benefit in the following ways:

* They gain industry experience in a workplace setting
* They learn important skills related to their study
* The placement provides on-the-job training to support VET programs
* They can establish connections with employers

Resources

If you’re a student, teacher, parent, or employer, a great place to start looking for opportunities is the work placements website. You can search for placements relevant to industries or courses.

One handy feature of the web portal is the ability for students to share currently available positions with their teachers, via the “Share With Your Teacher” button. This provides the possibility for students and teachers to review placement options together.
