School Holidays: Week One

Central Grampians LLEN partners with Stawell Neighbourhood House.

The first week of the school holidays has welcomed young people to the Stawell Neighbourhood House to learn, develop new skills and have a bit of fun along the way.

Drone Zone Workshop

The week started with Drone Zone, a free workshop for young people to develop their STEM skills, learn about what drones are, how to build them and how to fly them. The workshop was led by Nathaniel, a young local drone pilot who competes in drone racing on a national level.

Participants learned about racing drones and watched as Nathaniel presented them with a racing demonstration outside near Cato Lake in Stawell. This demonstration included first-person headsets, which enabled participants to watch the drone from the drone’s own perspective.

The fun continued inside where participants tried flying miniature drones through obstacles laid out before them.

This workshop will be hosted again next week in Ararat on Monday July 9, 2018. To register for this event, please click here.

Make-Up Workshop

Tuesday welcomed young women to Stawell Neighbourhood House for an in-depth day about wellbeing. The day included talks about body image, social media, healthy nutrition and finished with a make-up workshop. The day was led by three different professionals: Deb Armstrong, Bec Carmichael and Stacey.

Wellbeing involves taking care of your whole self not just your physical appearance and not just your emotional health. By drawing on the strengths of three different professionals, the young women learnt how to develop healthy habits including meditation, nutrition and make-up practices. The young women who attended left feeling informed, empowered and beautiful.

This workshop will be run in Ararat on Tuesday July 10, 2018. To register for this event, please click here
