Winning entry will be published in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Canberra Times.
The Republic Essay Competition is designed to recognise and reward talented young writers. It aims to encourage future leaders to reflect on Australian civics and citizenship.
Year 11 and 12 students in Australian secondary schools are invited to submit an essay on the following topic (up to 1,000 words):
“An Australian head of state will better represent Australian values and identity”
In 2017, the winning entry will be published in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Canberra Times. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to a writing workshop with ARM Chair Peter FitzSimons and receive membership to the Australian Republic Movement.
