SWL (Structured Workplace Learning), an initiative supported by Central Grampians LLEN, was introduced to many students and businesses at the Opportunity Knocks careers expo on March 23, 2017 in Stawell.
The expo hosted many schools, students, and employers who are interested in employment opportunities for local people. Central Grampians LLEN’s SWL advocate, Melissa, also attended to learn more about employment opportunities in the region and how SWL can collaborate with local employers. This was the perfect setting for SWL to present what it has to offer students and employers alike.
The SWL portal is a state-wide and online initiative by the Victorian Department of Education and Training, which presents relevant local training and employment opportunities to VET or VCAL students.
SWL was already known by a number of students who attended the careers expo. Students currently doing placements were good advocates for SWL and were able to share their knowledge and experiences with interested people. SWL currently has four students from Lake Bolac doing placements.
Melissa, the SWL portal manager and Central Grampians LLEN’s Program Manager, met with lots of people relevant to the local industries and discussed what kind of opportunities they are offering their communities and how they could tie into the SWL initiative in the future.
Room For Growth
Melissa is excited to announce that SWL is doing well and is focusing on more placements with local businesses for the region’s current and future students.
