The Skills and Pathways network provides an opportunity for local employers, community members and education stakeholders to come together to discuss issues and develop local solutions around training and pathways to employment.
Local responses to skill shortages was the focus of the Skills and Pathways network in November. The Skills and Pathways network provides an opportunity for local employers, community members and education stakeholders to come together to discuss issues and develop local solutions around training and pathways to employment. Throughout the year a series of breakfasts have been held in Ararat and Stawell.
At their final breakfast for the year, the Skills and Pathways network heard about and discussed skill shortages in the local area. Regional Industry Careers Advisor Sean Cameron spoke about the impacts of an aging population and future skills need. Sean highlighted the fact that the number of people entering the workforce is declining whilst the number of people exiting the workforce is increasing. There are a number of strategies being employed throughout the region to support young people to enter the workforce and to promote a learning and training culture in the community.
The Skills and Pathways network is an initiative of the Grampians Pyrenees Regional Development Board and the Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network. All employers who participate in programs such as Structured Workplace Learning, work experience and School Based Apprenticeship programs are welcome to attend the network and participate in a discussion on how the community contributes to building futures for young people.
