Students Get to Work for the Community

Published Dec 10, 2007

Twenty students from Stawell and Ararat have been getting to work over the past months to lend a hand to the Apex club of Stawell. Nine students worked alongside Apex club members, learning new skills while doing building and landscaping work at the Apex Clubrooms in Stawell. A further eleven students from Stawell Secondary College were involved in the planning and construction of Stawell’s new Burnout Pad. The Burnout pad construction was supported by the Apex club and was conducted under the supervision of teacher Anthony Taylor.

The Stawell Apex Club were very happy with the work students conducted. Club Secretary Mark Troeth said “The students have put in a great effort and it has been a great project for the club to be involved in”. The club thanked the students for their efforts at a BBQ on November 21st. Students were presented with certificates of recognition for their efforts. The Apex Building and Landscaping project was made possible through the Local Community Partnership Adopt a School project. Adopt a School allows young people to have hands on learning experiences and builds links between industry and young people. By being a part of Adopt a School, young people learn about local career paths and employment opportunities. They also develop skills and learn from people from industry backgrounds. For further information on the Adopt a School program or to get involved please contact Belinda Healy on 5352 3266.
