In 2009 Central Grampians LLEN awarded four schools in the Ararat and the surrounding areas with two awards celebrating the outstanding achievement of students studying Vocational Pathways. As well as the award for their achievements, the students also earned money towards to their schooling.
In Ararat, Jess Reid from Ararat College and Jake Kociancic from Marian College both received awards.
Jess Reid studied VET Maths and English and was very excited to have heard she received a reward acknowledging her work, Jess has since moved on to an Apprenticeship as a Hairdresser at local salon Hair 6ty.
She works while learning about the industry from trained professionals. Jess says she has always enjoyed hair care and the her fellow employees at Hair 6ty are very nice and she is learning a lot. In the future she would like the possibility of running her own salon or working as a hairdresser in local salons.
Jake Kociancic studied VET Food Processing (Wine) in year 10 and 11. He enjoyed getting a taste from other areas and it gave him a broader view of different careers and choices available to him.
Currently he is studying for his VCE certificate and is hoping to go to University. He is working towards becoming a primary school teacher as he has always liked children and always thought the learning process was highly important.
Although Jake and Jess chose different directions, they both are very proud and were encouraged by receiving their awards. “I was very surprised but happy that I got award for my VET subjects” Jake said.
