Partnership VCAL Structured Work Placement (SWL)

Published Nov 30, 2006

My name is Ann-Michelle Warrener and I am currently studying a joint certificate CGEA&VCAL (Partnership VCAL) at the university of Ballarat Stawell campus and LenZone! Youth Resource Centre. The units I do there are Maths, English, Art, Computers, Oral communications, Work related skills and Personal development skills.

This year I undertook a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course in childcare

This year I undertook a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course in childcare, the units I studied included: Support the development of children in service, communicate with children and ensure children’s health and safety.

My favourite part of work placement would be watching the children play and seeing them happy.

I’m currently taking part in work placement at occasional care in Stawell and my supervisor is Kathryn Dunn. Tasks I do at work placement are: helping the children, nappy changing, cleaning and painting. My favourite part of work placement would be watching the children play and seeing them happy.

By participating in the Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) program I have learnt that there is more to childcare than just looking after someone else’s child. I would like to keep going and get into the certificate three course next year as children services is what I would like to do for a future career.
