Prominent Stawell woman, Mrs Terryll Morrissey, has taken over from Les Gason, as Chair of the Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network (CGLLEN).

Prominent Stawell woman, Mrs Terryll Morrissey, has taken over from Les Gason, as Chair of the Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network (CGLLEN).

With extensive experience in the health and aged care sectors and tourism based business interests in the region, Mrs Morrissey, Executive Officer of Eventide Homes, brings an employer perspective to the challenging position.

Chief Executive Officer, David Wheaton, said the work of the Network revolved around supporting young people to complete year 12 or equivalent and understanding the needs of employers so it could help young people make smooth transitions from school to work.

“We are thrilled such an outstanding local woman will take a key role in directing our work,” Mr Wheaton said.

Mrs Morrissey was elected following the Network’s AGM in March and chaired her first Board meeting at Lake Bolac during May.

Speaking at CGLLEN's Skills and Pathways Team meeting in Ararat this morning, Ms Morrissey she said she was looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“Eventide currently employ 82 staff and I believe I bring an employer perspective to the table in working with schools and training providers to improve local job and training opportunities for young people.” Mrs Morrissey said.

Mrs Morrissey also thanked outgoing chair, Les Gason, for his leadership over the past four years.

“We thank Les for his leadership during which time we have had many successes including the establishment of LenZone! Youth Centres in both Stawell and Ararat, the successful running of Careers Month for four consecutive years and the uptake of School Based New Apprenticeships by local employers.” Mrs Morrissey said.

“We are delighted that Les will be staying on the Board, this has allowed for a smooth transition and means we will continue to benefit from his expertise and experience.” Mrs Morrissey said.

As well as Mrs Morrissey, the CGLLEN Board elected Ms Lyn Hughes as Deputy Chair, Mr Bill Slatter as Treasurer, Ms Joan Studd as Secretary and welcomed new board members: Peter Hilbig, Henry Gunston and Gilda McKechnie to the 18 member Board.
