Prominent Ararat businessman, Mr Les Gason, was elected to chair the Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network (CGLLEN) on Monday evening.
With extensive experience in the private sector, Mr Gason, Managing Director of A.F. Gason Pty Ltd, brings a wealth of 'on the ground' knowledge to the challenging position.
Executive Officer, David Wheaton, said the role of the Network revolved around understanding the needs of employers so it could help young people make smooth transitions from school to work.
“We are thrilled such an outstanding local businessman will take an active role in directing and leading our work.” Mr Wheaton said.
Mr Gason said he was looking forward to the challenge ahead, particularly working with local schools.
"I am looking forward to encouraging local young people to follow the path best suited to their skills and ambition. Mr Gason said.
“This includes encouraging them to consider taking up an apprenticeship or traineeship.” Mr Gason said.
“Having employed close to 200 apprentices, I have often promoted staff with a trade back-ground into supervision, quality assurance, sales and management roles.” Mr Gason said.
As well as Mr Gason’s election, the Network elected Ms Joan Studd, University of Ballarat, as Deputy Chair and welcomed new board members: Mr Bill Colvin, General Manager of Stawell Goldmines, and Ms Jan Consedine, Director of Human and Community Services at Northern Grampians Shire.
