Grade 6 students from St. Mary’s Primary School and staff helped LenZone! celebrate its 5th birthday on Wednesday 16th September. Centre Coordinator, Francesca Suffield said “Our official birthday was in August, but we had other commitments with Careers Month. We invited the Grade 6 class so they could have an insight into what happens at LenZone! and they can participate next year .”
Activities included a drum circle, with facilitator, Christiana Pentzin. Using a variety of percussion instruments, the students blended their own sounds into a harmonious rhythm. The workshop went for about 30 minutes with breaks for some circus skills and birthday cake. The PlayStation was put through its pace as was Guitar Hero on the Wii.
LenZone! has had a huge couple of months with Careers month in July, where over 300 students visited 19 workplaces to get an insight in the various employment opportunities in the region. The Vocational Pathways Award was held on Tuesday 15th September to celebrate outstanding performances by students in the areas of Vocational Education and Training, School Based Apprenticeship, Structured Workplace Learning and Local Community Partnership programs. A total of 13 students and 12 Employers were recognised for their achievements and support. Certificates of appreciations were also presented to organisations and individuals who had supported LenZone and LCP programs during the year.
Thank you to the staff and team of volunteers who have made these functions run so smoothly.
