Tree Planting with Project Platypus

Published Aug 9, 2006

Partnership VCAL (PVCAL) students become aware of their environment with the help of Project Platypus.

creating a better habitat for the platypuses.

Project Platypus is part of Upper Wimmera Landcare, it is a habitat restoration project aimed at improving the environment in which platypuses live. By planting native trees and shrubs on the surrounding land, water quality will improve and there will be less soil erosion and salinity - creating a better habitat for the platypuses.

By the end of the day we had planted 1000 trees

On Wednesday 12th July 2006 a crew of PVCAL students headed for the hills near Moyston to help Project Platypus put in a Wild Life Corridor. Bernie Rudolph the Works Coordinator for Project Platypus started the day off by giving us a demonstration of how to plant the trees. We were then split up into teams, a group of 3 made guards, while 3 pairs went out to plant and guard the trees. By the end of the day we had planted 1000 trees

It was great to see the guys working as a team on a community project. Being involved in the tree plant achieved learning outcomes for Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills units of VCAL.

Well done guys for contributing to your community and improving the environment you live in.
