Technology For Teenagers (T4T) places recycled technology in the homes of families with secondary school-age children that would otherwise be unable to afford a home computer. The program relies on donations of equipment that can be reformatted and rebuilt by young people into workable systems. The Central Grampians LLEN has been very fortunate to receive donations from many local businesses, community organisations and individuals for the Technology for Teenagers Program. Donations have ranged from entire systems to hard drives, printers, monitors, keyboards and mice. Donors to date have included:
All equipment donated for the program is gratefully accepted. We also welcome donations of software or funding to allow us to purchase minor equipment. Due to cost restrictions not all equipment can be brought up to standard to redistribute. Over the coming months we will be working with young people in the “Making it Real” Enterprise Learning program to develop ways to dispose of equipment that is unable to be redistributed. There are currently costs involved with this safe computer recycling. We would welcome suggestions and feedback from anyone who is involved in recycling of this kind or who can assist us with disposing of obsolete equipment.
