Making It Real Moves Forward

Published Jun 14, 2006

The "Making it Real" Enterprise Learning Project is being lent a helping hand by Technology for Teenagers (T4T) group leader Mark Troeth. Mark has a background in IT training and technical servicing and has lent this knowledge and experience to the members of the T4T group. Mark attends LenZone! every Wednesday afternoon and works with the Technology for Teenagers group to develop solutions for disposing of outdated computer equipment. Under Mark’s guidance the young people format, rebuild and prepare IT equipment for recycling and redistribution to students in need. The students also safely disassemble old PCs in preparation for recycling.

The Technology for Teenagers program has been in operation since October 2004. In this time forty computers have been presented to students in need and over 200 kilos of scrap metal have been sent for recycling. More the 100 computers have been donated from more than 20 organisations and individuals.

Not only does the Technology for Teenagers program provide computers to young people in need but it also provides an outlet for the technology minded young people of the Technology for Teenagers group. Group leader Mark Troeth said “The best part about T4T is that we can provide an activity for young people that are not sport focussed. These young people are enthusiastic and committed because they are working on something that interests them.”

Technology for Teenagers is just one of the activities being offered at LenZone! Young people are also encouraged to come into LenZone! and speak to Geoff and Francesca about their interests and things they would like to see happen.
