A New Year Gift for Students In Need

Published Jan 10, 2006

Twelve students from the Central Grampians region now have better access to technology as a result of the Technology for Teenagers (T4T) program. Twelve second-hand computers have been donated by local businesses and individuals and have been refurbished and redistributed to local students who would not otherwise be able to have a computer at home. Students from Ararat, Pomonal, Willaura and Stawell have received computers after submitting a successful application to the program in December. These computers will aid the students with their studies at school and with further education and with job seeking.

The response from the public to the Technology for Teenagers program has been overwhelming. Donations of second hand equipment have continued to stream into LenZone! Ararat and Stawell. This equipment is then sorted and refurbished by secondary students supported by volunteers. Over the coming months the students will also be developing methods to safely dispose of equipment that is too old to be refurbished or has no remaining practical use. LenZone! and the Technology for Teenagers students will also be organising a computer swap meet for components with all proceeds going to assist in the continued T4T program.

This program would not be possible without the support of our volunteers and we sincerely thank them for their support of the program. The donations of equipment are critical and in this instance donations from the West Vic Division of General Practice, the Ararat Community College and the University of Ballarat have supported the program.

For more information or to get involved with the T4T program as a volunteer or by donating equipment please contact Belinda Healy on 5352 3266.
