Stawell Secondary College student, HANNAH ELLEN, explains how NUMB Productions came about and what it hopes to achieve.

NUMB Productions started earlier this year when a group of young enthusiastic people decided action needed to be taken to involve the younger teenage society of today to better the whole community.

A committee was formed to meet regularly and discuss ideas. There are two major projects at the moment, the Radio Station and Movies.

Radio Station: We are currently looking into, planning and deciding to run a youth focused community radio station for Stawell. The great team from LenZone! have kindly given us use of some of the space above LenZone! office in the main street of Stawell. The radio station will be set up, organised and run by a group of young people; with the aid of willing community members.

The station would operate 24 hours a day seven days a week, where students community members and guests would be welcome to use the wonderful facilities on the second level of LenZone! We are just waiting for the License to come through. So keep your ears tuned.

Movies: With the aid of the Progress Association and all members involved, we would like to change for the better the current system of screening movies at the Stawell Entertainment Centre. From the feedback of the community, most attitudes towards the current system are “the movies are too old, they’re already out on DVD” or “The movies are great, but a wider range of screening would be better” and “More regular movies are needed to give us something to do of a weekend!”

We believe that certain improvements are needed without offending anyone currently running this. We simply would like to help make Stawell a better place for everyone!
