Lenny the Stork lands at Montara Vineyard.
Happening Families participants took up the challenge to create a scarecrow for this year’s ‘Scarecrow in the Vineyard’ festival at Montara Winery, Ararat.
The criteria was : standing tall
Lively and enthusiastic
With innovative use of materials
Able to survive all weather at Montara
from 8th April till Sunday 30th April 2006.
A brainstorming session took place to decide on a design. A stork carrying a baby seemed appropriate. With the help of Kate de Garis of the Ararat Art Gallery, we had a general idea of what our creation would look like. The group was then asked to rummage at home for any materials that may be suitable for our project.
It was thought that it was a good avenue for recycling shopping bags and newspapers. LenZone! approached Mitre 10 to see if they would donate some materials. They supported the project with donations of chicken wire, P.V.C. pipes, sample pots of paints and bondcrete
The skeletal structure was put together by Kate and Geoff and Lenny the stork was taking shape.
In no time, LenZone! was a hive of activity with the group split up doing various tasks. It was a race against time, but Lenny the Stork was ready for action by 7.00pm on the 7th April, 2006.
For 3 weeks now, Lenny has withstood all weather conditions and will be closely scrutinised on Sunday 30th April when the votes will be counted and the winner announced at Montara.
So, friends of LenZone!, make your vote count and head to Montara Vineyard on Sunday and support a fun festival.
