Engage

The Engage! program helps local youth from 12 to 25 years to connect to community and get the best out of living locally. We work with young people to explore education and career pathways and learn about the many ways they can contribute to making the local area a vibrant place to be. Engage! aims to increase youth participation in local volunteering, increase knowledge of education, training and employment opportunities, and improve support networks within the community.

We achieve this through a focus on youth activities and programs within the community centred around three themes:

  • Celebrate
  • Inform
  • Teen Action Groups and Helping Out

Through Engage!, we work with schools, local government, youth service providers and community groups to run youth events and activities and put young people at the centre. Some examples of Engage! in action include:

  • Hosting workshops on youth issues, self esteem and youth participation and leadership
  • Working with young people to plan and run events that celebrate youth culture
  • Developing skills through training in creative writing, photography, music editing and more
  • Promoting volunteering through expos and hands on activities

We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to connect with young people and we love to have input from the community. It is our local young people that make these activities successful. The Youth Engage! Stawell (YES!) and the Engage! Ararat Programs are funded by the Department of Human Services.

National Youth Week

Each year, Central Grampians LLEN works with young people in Ararat and Stawell to develop activities to celebrate National Youth Week. National Youth Week occurs in April and is a celebration of youth culture and young people. Some of the fantastic events that we have participated in have been film festivals, artistic workshops and exhibitions. We love to hear your ideas and encourage the whole community to join us in celebrating and recognising the skills, talents and abilities of young people.
